Basically, Ruth is the story of Ruth's friendship with her mother-in-law, Naomi. This book has its own appeal, because it reminds us that King David was a descendant of Ruth and her husband, Boaz. Moreover, from a human standpoint, Jesus was able to trace his ancestors through Ruth (Matthew 1:5). Thus the book tells us that the family of the Redeemer, from whom the Redeemer was born a thousand years later, had a non-Jewish family member.

Ruth's surrender to her in-laws was an extraordinary expression of love and loyalty. God rewards such faithfulness. Orpah disappeared from the pages of the Bible.
